Miss M's "big girl" bed

Today marks Miss M's first day in the "big girl" bed. We started to assemble it this morning and thought it would only take a few hours. Ha! Lunch time rolled around, then Miss M's naptime. It was 3pm before we could even put her in there for her nap, and the bed wasn't even fully assembled. We still have to assemble the 3 drawers (see those rectangular voids under the mattress?) and some trim around the top edge of the daybed. She slept OK for her nap, didn't fall off or anything like that. We'll see how she does after her first full night in it.

So this is how we found her when we got her after her nap. She was on top of her blanket. If I were her, I'd want to burrito myself in there. Her bed looks so cozy. And there is a lot more room for all her little friends compared to her crib. I don't think she's made the connection between the new bed and newfound "freedom" to roam about her room... yet.

--<>--

I've put the Jayne Cobb hat on hold for now, there is only so much ear flapping I can do before I go crazy. It's all those short rows back and forth. And I think I got a little discouraged/depressed from finding out that the orange and yellow colors I'm using have been discontinued. But it's not just this hat that has gotten me down. I'm just feeling down in general.

Miss M keeps asking me to make her a purple hat. Purple seems to be a consistent favorite color. She must have gotten that from me. So I'm playing around with some of that Cleckheaton Country 8 Ply yarn that I love so much, which I had used for 3 of her hats. I wish they sold this yarn here in the United States. Anyhow, I'm trying to transform some of the purple Cleckheaton into a Pythagorean Hat for her. I was entertaining the idea of using 2 colors for this (one color for the knit triangles, another for the purl triangles), but I don't have the energy or will power to juggle two balls of yarn right now. The pattern was originally written for worsted weight yarn. The Cleckheaton is a lighter weight DK. So I have tweaked the pattern just a hair in the hopes that it will work out for her. I'm gonna tweak the decrease a little as I wasn't really happy with the original. I'm running out of Cleckheaton in my stash, where can I get some more? Oh, did I mention that I love this yarn? Yeah I know, it's not a "glamourous" yarn, but it sure does hold up well to machine washing, and that's a plus for any of Miss M's knitted items. Or perhaps that would be me, since I did managed to semi-felt superwash wool.

Pattern Bibliography

I have mentioned what inspired my patterns and pseudo-patterns in many of my posts, but not all. There was really no rhyme or reason to this. However I am in the process of going back and including this information on all my pattern posts. In this post, I am working on an enumeration of where my patterns were inspired from, so I have it all in once place and don't have to go diving through all my notes (which are in a complete mess since we moved house). I've never seen anyone else post a pattern bibliography like this of their patterns. And most patterns I've seen don't even cite the stitch patterns they use. So is this too unorthodox? Anyhow, patterns and stitches are listed alphabetically. I've tried to make this list as complete as possible, however I might have missed some here and there. I have to mention that I was surprised at not being able to find a reference to "reverse stockinette stitch" in any of my BWs, you'd think it would be mentioned at the beginning of BW1 along with stockinette stitch and garter stitch. This is a stitch I have used many times, and was worried that I could not cite where it came from, but I did manage to find it in MT. Whew! Any stitch patterns I used from BW3 and BW4 were painstakingly "translated" from chart to row-by-row instructions because I still haven't learned how to knit from charts. Yes, this is something I intend to learn someday, just like how I will someday learn how to swatch for gauge and knit socks.

These are the stitch pattern books I have used. They're really dangerous to have. Someone should take them away from me so I can stop wasting time experimenting with stuff when I could better use the time to actually finish more knitted projects. Tinkering takes too much time. Yes, I'm starting to feel the Christmas crunch...

Ok, I think I got 'em all, or at least most of them. This shows me that I spend way too much of my spare time doing this sort of thing. Tired now. I need to take a break... where's my book and cup of tea? I think I also need some chocolate for some extra soothing...
