Good habits

Look what DH recently got for me. An external drive with 500 GB of space. I guess I have no excuse but to practice what I preach about backing up data. I know it's not quite a terabyte, but this isn't too shabby. It'll take me a while to fill it up. I was in great need of this because the little 60 GB hard drive on my laptop was getting pretty full. It's pretty darn full when I notice that my free space is down to 700 MB! I did manage to clear off some stuff so I have 7 GB free now. It's a WIP, like my knitting.

This is what comes in the box. The only thing I wish it had was an on/off switch. I have to pull the plug when I'm done. Can't complain though, the thing only cost me $100. I don't keep this drive on all the time since it's mostly for backup, so I am not too concerned about the lack of a fan.

I just made a discovery about my IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T60 laptop. I can't find a parallel port on the laptop or the docking station. I guess times have changed and it has been obsoleted by USB. I don't have a working printer so am not in the habit of printing stuff out, however there are times when it would be nice to have one (like for those store coupons you receive in email).

I had a bit of a disappointment when I last saw my Mom. I brought the back section of the vest I was making for her and held it up to her to check for sizing. It was definitely on the short side. And it also looked a little to small widthwise too. She told me bigger would be better because she's "getting fat" again. Yes, that's what she said. So off to the frog pond I went. This is 2 balls of Highland Wool (due to spit splicing when I joined the 2nd ball) wound up into one large inelegant looking ball. Now I'm trying to work up the willpower to begin this vest again.

Here's a peek at something I'm a bit more happy with than Mom's vest. It's Elann's Superwash Merino DK which I said was very soft in my Bernadette Scarf. This one is Regency Rose which doesn't feel quite as soft as the Capri Blue, perhaps there are some differences of softness between colors. I need to weave in ends and block, two things I am very lazy about doing. And I'm not 100% sure I like it in this color. I keep eying my ball of Irish Moss for this, it's such a pretty color. However I'm holding off on using the Irish Moss for anything until I find the perfect pattern; I'm thinking of using this green for a gift to one of my machine wash friends.

I enjoyed working on the bobbles, it's a nice change to do them here and there. Bobbles are quite deceptive in that you never think that they could use up much yarn. But they do!

It's cold, overcast and threatening rain outside. I think I'll go make a pot of tea now...
