Throw out 50 Things (part 2)

Here's a continuation of my attempt to throw out 50 things before 1 Jan 2009.

I have a bunch of geeky books from Microsoft Press, O'Reilly, and others. They're quite old and obsolete.

11 & 12. Windows NT Network Administration Training (Microsoft Press).
Two copies! One of the box sets still has its shrink wrap on! (See bottom set, 2nd photo)

13. Windows NT Technical Support Training (Microsoft Press).

14. Networking Essentials (Microsoft Press).

15. MCSE The Core Exams In A Nutshell (O'Reilly).

16. Outlook Annoyances (O'Reilly). Ah, I thought I had this book! Well, out it goes...

17. MCSE Networking Essentials Study Guide by James Chellis, Charles Perkins, & Matthew Strebe.

18. MCSE Training Guide, Windows NT 4 Exams by David Yarashus.

As you can see, I collected quite a lot of boring reads in my previous lifetime.

19. Expired medicines from the medicine cabinet.

20 & 21. One broken bowl & one broken plate.

21 out of 50. What is that? 42%?

I'm still working on my Christmas knitting. I'm almost done with my second pair of Four Rib Braid Cable Mitts. I mentioned some planned improvements in my previous post (9Dec08 post) and have implemented them in this purple mitt. One super simple tweak allowed me to make a smooth transition from wrist ribbing to cable pattern. You can really see the difference when you compare the purple mitt to the pink mitt.

No, you're not imagining a "hump" on the right side of the purple mitt. There happens to be a loose stitch there and is making that side look sloppy. I need to try to tighten that up. These purple mitts should be completed by tonight, and then I have the challenge of knitting them again in a larger size.

Look! look! Look! I am using my new KP Harmony DPNs! And I love 'em! More about them next time...

Have you got labels for your hand knits yet? Check out these labels that Sam made. She downloaded the business card Word template from www.DECAdry.com, and added her own text & clip art. Isn't that a great idea?

Time to grab some lunch, finish up laundry, and return books at the library. Sometime between now and Sunday morning I need to pick up eggs so I can make lasagna for the Progressive Dinner in my neighborhood. I'm supposed to make enough for 25 people. I have no idea how much that comes out to. I'm hoping one big pan should be sufficient, but I do have enough ingreds for two big pans if it comes to that. Still need the eggs though...

I love the change you made to the purple mitt, it looks so natural. Nice job.

Eggs? In lasagna? We do ours without. The Teen has learned to make it himself, so we just had it on Monday. Nice to pass off that duty!

The purple mitt looks elegant and perfect.

Really good design change with the ribbing at the wrist, it now has a fluidity that was not there before. (although I liked the first mitts very much and did not realize what a big difference it would make). What a dedicated chef - making your own noodles (so you would need the eggs). I am spoiled, we have an incredile family owned italian deli with fabulous pastas from Italy. They also have a great Marinara they make (if I don't want to make my own). I guess it would depend on the size of the pan - 25 people is alot of food, especially if guys or teenagers are involved.

I love both mitts. I love knitting fingerless mitts--but it gets so cold here that noone I know wears them. My grandaughter loves them. she is 17--oh to be so young. But then I really don't want to go back there. Merry Christmas to you and yours!!

Lovely lavender, and the design tweak is terrific. Cooking lasagna for 25 is an ambitious project, making your own noodles is beyond ambition.

Somewhere in a dark corner is a pasta maker, from the period we tried making our own, just before we realized we really needed to back off on the pasta in our diet. Maybe it was the extra 5+ pounds we'd put on?

Off to check out the labels.

ahhh... O'Reily books... I know them well... :) I just ordered my copy of "The C# Programming Language (3rd Edition) (Microsoft .NET Development Series)" from Amazon. :)

I try to remain a minimalist when it comes to "material" stuff. Only keep what I need, recycle or give away the rest. :)
